Curriculum Plan
As Principal of Pinellas Preparatory Academy, I was responsible for overseeing the curriculum development to ensure alignment of our curriculum to the Sunshine State Standards. At various times during my tenure at PPA we reviewed and revised our curriculum plan. In 2005-06, my first year with the school, a scope and sequence was developed by each teacher to use as a curriculum map. In 2007-08 we spent time revising the map to update the units based on new curricular materials. I led a committee of teachers who reviewed the various lessons and units that each subject taught at each grade level, and we revised and aligned the unit to allow for more interdisciplinary instruction amongst teachers. In 2009-10 we have started the process of further defining the curriculum by starting with the Sunshine State Standards. We then identified key indicators or essential knowledge that each student must have at the end of each grade level. This then is being used to develop a more detailed curriculum map. This process has been supported through the use of Google Apps for Education, in that the curriculum is being collaborative developed between myself and the entire teaching staff at the school. This is currently in progress, and should be prepared within the next two months.
